形容詞原則上是不能作主語的。這是個倒裝句，表語前置，主語後移

有時爲了表示強調或出於句子結構平衡的需要，將作表語用的形容詞或分詞短語等置於句首，主謂倒裝。

如:

1) Among those invited were some ladies.

有些女士在邀請之列。（表語among those invited置於句首，起強調作用）

2) Less important than ever is developing a meaningful philosophy of life.

建立一種有意義的人生哲學不像以前那樣重要了。（主語developing a... life太長，表語less important than ever過短，爲了避免頭重腳輕，將表語前置）

①本句爲形容詞短語前置的倒裝句，正常的語序爲：Discerning precisely how... is more difficult in the moment。

②句子主語爲動名詞短語discerning how... character，其中包含how引導的賓語從句，作動名詞discerning的賓語。

要精準察覺當前的經濟蕭條對社會特徵的影響，則較爲困難。
